This guide explains how to download a backup using JetBackup 5 in cPanel.
JetBackup 5 allows you to access backups that have already been created automatically for your hosting account. In our hosting environment, these backups are generated daily and can be used to download copies of your website data when needed.
This is different from creating a manual backup in cPanel. JetBackup 5 is mainly used to browse available restore points and download existing backup data, rather than creating a new backup on demand.
In this article, we will cover
- Where to find JetBackup 5 in cPanel
- How to view available backup items
- How to download a backup
- What to check while your download is being prepared
Open JetBackup 5
First, log in to cPanel and locate JetBackup 5. Depending on your cPanel layout, you may find it by browsing the available tools or by using the search bar.
Once opened, JetBackup 5 will display its dashboard. From here, you will normally see areas such as Restore & Download, Downloads, and Queue.

Choose the backup type
Under Restore & Download, you may see several backup categories depending on your account permissions. These can include Full Backups, Home Directory, Databases, Domains, Certificates, and Email Accounts.
Select the type of backup you want to download. For example, if you want a copy of your website files, choose Home Directory. If you need a database backup, choose Databases.
This allows you to download only the part of the account you need rather than retrieving everything at once.

Select a restore point
After choosing a backup type, JetBackup 5 will show the available backup dates for that item. These are the restore points currently available for your account.
Select the backup date you want to use. In most cases, it is best to choose the most recent version unless you specifically need an older copy from before a change was made.
Keep in mind that the number of available backups depends on the retention policy configured for the hosting environment. Older dates may no longer be available if they have already rotated out.
Download the backup
Once you have selected the correct restore point, choose the option to download the backup.
JetBackup 5 may first place the request into a queue while it prepares the file. This is normal, especially for larger backups. You can monitor progress using the Queue section if needed.
When the backup file is ready, it will usually appear in the Downloads area, where you can retrieve it to your computer.

Check the downloaded file
After downloading the backup, store it somewhere safe on your computer or in secure cloud storage. It is a good idea to label the file clearly so you know what it contains and when it was downloaded.
If you are preparing for a website update or change, keeping a local copy gives you an extra layer of protection.
